Youth Transforming your Mtaa with PSN at the YC-CFC 2025 Launch

The Youth City – Changing Faces Competition (YC-CFC) 2025 officially launched on 19th July 2025, where youth teams from Kamukunji, Dandora, and Korogocho stood tall, ready to shape the future of your Mtaa. The energy in the room was electric as 32 youth teams submitted their proposals with bold, small-scale project ideas ranging from turning littered sidewalks into safe walkways, painting murals on blank walls, setting up community gardens, to reclaiming neglected riverbanks as green spaces. These young changemakers didn’t just sit back; they spoke up about their dreams for greener, safer, cleaner, and more inclusive community spaces. One after another, youth representatives shared stories of the everyday struggles in their communities; unsafe paths to school, public spaces filled with waste, and corners where children had no safe space to play. Yet, their words carried hope and determination, not despair.

The YC-CFC journey began with the Dandora Transformation League (DTL), which mobilized over 3,000 young people to reclaim 120 public spaces. The first Nairobi-wide edition took place in 2018/19 under the umbrella of PSN, for which 114 teams registered and the concept was recognized by two international awards: Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve Living Environment and Le Monde Smart Cities Awards – Global Citizen Engagement Category . This year, the selected youth teams get the means to act and bring their space transformation ideas to life with funding, skills, mentorship, and hands-on support from PSN in partnership with Dreamtown and Nairobi City County Government.

YC-CFC is live and it’s only the beginning. We’re not just imagining better, we’re building it.
