The Cool Waters Climate Change Academy has officially come to an end and it ended on a sweet note. Last week, as Cohort 2 gathered for their final Module 6 session, the room carried more than just lessons. It carried pride, laughter and the smell of two giant cakes. One read “Congratulations Cohort 2.” The other, “Taking Action on Climate Change.” Those words said everything. Over the past months, these trainees had gone from uncertain learners to confident advocates, from asking “What can we do?” to saying “Here’s what we’re doing.” They had mapped climate risks in their neighborhoods, designed community adaptation plans and learned how to present them to decision-makers. Module 6 brought it all together with advocacy, proposals and the confidence to speak up. It was not just a classroom; it was a launchpad. The celebration was small but its meaning was big. Each slice of cake marked the end of one phase and the beginning of another, the action phase. Because for these young climate leaders, the real work starts now. They leave the Academy not just with certificates to come but with clarity that climate leadership is local and that every voice matters in building resilient communities. As they prepare for their graduation ceremony later this year, the air is filled with both gratitude and anticipation. What began as a training has become a movement powered by knowledge, ownership and community. The Cool Waters Climate Change Academy may have concluded its sessions but its story is far from over.
